Kohler ranked 45th in the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership list of largest consumers of renewable power in 2021, with 100% of the electricity for our U.S. and Canada operations coming from renewable sources such as wind and solar. Kohler's power purchases from the wind farms of Enel Green Power, known as the Diamond Vista project, have reduced our global carbon emissions footprint by 26%. We also have solar power installations at our facilities around the world, which generated 9.7 million kilowatt-hours of power in 2021.
Kohler ranked 45th in the EPA's Green Power Partnership list of largest consumers of renewable power in 2021. SmartWay High Performer
In 2021 Kohler was recognized as a SmartWay high performer by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The SmartWay program promotes sustainable goods movement. SmartWay high performers have achieved significant shipping and freight efficiencies that merit special attention, including reductions in transportation-related emissions.
100%
Solar Power
Kohler is partnering with utilities to facilitate the production of renewable energy to be used by local communities, including a 2.25-megawatt solar field at Kohler's headquarters on which construction began in 2021. One partnership with Alliant Energy will be commissioned in 2022 and will provide enough clean energy to power 580 homes per year in Sheboygan County. Many of our facilities have on-site solar generation, and we continue to invest in owned and purchased solar power to help us reach our net- zero goal. The solar array at our Spartanburg, South Carolina, facility produces over 1.6 million kilowatts of power for the plant annually. The Kohler Leadership Team (KLT) regularly reviews the climate risks and opportunities facing Kohler to ensure that these are linked to our business goals, with accountability for specific responsibilities measured by key performance indicators. As part of our continuous improvement processes, we gather data and report on metrics according to the GHG Protocol, historically reporting on Scope 1 emissions (from fuel we consume in manufacturing) and Scope 2 emissions (from fuel used by our energy providers). In 2021 the KLT committed to reporting metrics and establishing targets for select Scope 3 emissions, which are indirect emissions that occur in the value chain such as emissions from suppliers, transportation, and consumers.
